Forums | Glossary Index | Glucose

Glucose is a simple sugar made by the body. It is a building block for most carbohydrates. Digestion causes carbohydrates to break down into glucose. After digestion, glucose is carried in the blood and goes to body cells where it is used for energy or stored. Abnormally low or high levels of glucose in the blood often indicate metabolic disturbances (e.g., diabetes).
