Incentive Spirometry Device is a small plastic device with a flexible hose attached to it. A recent post operative patient will be given the device to suck the air in to allow to exercise the lungs. This will help avoid atelectasis and pneumonia following surgery. Patients are usually adviced to take the Incentive Spirometer Device home until the patients lungs no longer a risks for any sickness.
