Obstructive Sleep Apnea is the cessation (stopping) of breathing during sleep, due to a mechanical obstruction, such as a semi-collapsed trachea, tongue relaxed to back of the throat, or a large amount of tissue (fat) in the uvula area. Many Bariatric patients suffer from this disorder due to the fatty tissue or the weight placed on the throat and lungs when laying flat in a sleeping position. Many obese or bariatric patient suffer from Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Once the Bariatric patient has surgery the patient see great improvement within months.
